Farmhouse Animal Statue

Many years ago, on the manner back from a trip out east, we stopped at a farmstead. There are lots of them out at that place and they're all then sweet, it'due south impossible to skip 1.

Fifty-fifty when they're all selling the same thing. Sunflowers, strawberries, tomatoes and corn.

Oh. And pie.

Lots of pie.

My husband knows the drill. He instinctively pulls over without being asked. I guess that comes from as well many years of Expect! Get back!!

Anyhow, on that 1 trip, I found a moo-cow. I call up that my mom spotted it first.

Kimmie, this would look great in your kitchen.

And she was right. It would. It had that rustic-cottage-farmhouse way look...plus I didn't own a cow and I'd always loved them.

They reminded me of higher, when I lived upstate, they were everywhere. I used to have to terminate my auto and look, while the farmers led their herds beyond the street, from pasture to barn.

I mean really, is there anything more charming than that?

At $30, she was a little pricey and my mom wanted to purchase her for me, she was always treating me to things - Then many sweetness memories - but I was a big daughter now with a business firm and family of my own. I figured I could get this one myself.

So along with a bag of apples and some cookies, that moo-cow hopped in the minivan with united states.

She was tan and black and pretty big and sabbatum on my pine server for years. The kids loved her, similar a pet.

Hi cow!,they would say, as they ran her by after schoolhouse. She was a real function of the family.

Until. You knew it was coming.

Until one day, for no reason, my plate rack just fell off the wall, crashed into the cow, who hit the floor and smashed into too many pieces to repair.

And trust me. Nosotros tried.

I call up my DIY guy was the most upset. In that location aren't a lot of things he can't fix and this was very disappointing to him.

And then much and then, that for years, he's been looking for another cow, merely like it, only and so far no luck.

Honestly, the simply identify I've seen a cow even shut is on my friend Brenda'southward blog. She has ane that'south similar, but smaller.

Well, fast forward to December. We were in HomeGoods, looking around and my husband establish this darling resin statue.

Cow Pig Goat Rooster

Non fifty-fifty remotely the aforementioned moo-cow, as this i had friends, but my husband was very taken with it and insisted on buying it for me.

Y'all have to take it. Y'all need another cow.

How could I pass up?

I mean, come on, when you lot're a decor addict and a guy wants to buy yous cow, you always say yes.

So this picayune barnyard pyramid came abode with us. And all was well. For almost a month.

Until.

Yup. I kid you not.

Somehow, someway, he knocked into it (while doing the dishes...so who could be mad at him?) and information technology broke.

It wasn't a bad intermission, just a crack in the caprine animal'due south legs, but enough to knock his feet loose and expose the heavy wire that held that statue together.

He was mad. There was no way this repair was going to get the amend of him. And so off to the garage he went.

When he emerged, the legs were better. He used a unproblematic two part epoxy glue to gum the feet downwardly to the cow, where they had separated and let them dry.

And so he used a 2 part epoxy putty to rebuild the function of the legs that were missing and once they were dry, he sanded them with a fine sandpaper so they were perfectly smooth.

It's a process we've used since to repair a yard sale lamp.

It looked astonishing. I couldn't believe what a groovy chore he did.

And all the same, I totally could.

Then I put information technology back on the counter, thinking we were done. Of form, he wasn't satisfied with that.

No. Now it's your turn. Fix the finish.

What?? I can't fix that. Are yous kidding?  It'southward like a professional finish. They sprayed that or something.

No. Become out your paints and Exquisitely Unremarkable information technology upwards...

It'll never match...

Effort it.

First I mixed two paint colors together, tested it and when I was 99% certain information technology was correct, I painted it on the putty with a small bristle brush.

I was ready to get out it that way, when I decided, I wasn't a quitter either.

Once more I peeked at my paint collection and tried to detect a friction match for the spots.

Paint On Resin

Then I took a very pocket-size, very square, very stiff bristled brush, dipped it in the paint, dabbed information technology onto a slice of newspaper towel to remove any excess and gave it 2 random, quick pounces on each leg.

And wow...information technology worked. I have to admit I was shocked.

So was he.

And yet he wasn't.

That little slice of farmhouse kitchen decor looks every bit good every bit new now.
